Abstract

1,213,721. Twisting arrangement; traverse mechanism. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT TEXTILNOGO I LEGKOGO MASHINSTROENIA. 19 Jan., 1968, No. 2925/68. Headings D1D and D1J. Units, each comprising a hollow spindle 2 a spindle brake 3, a thread tensioner 4, a thread traverse 15, 16, 17 and a take-up winding arrangement 5, replace the usual spindles and rings of a spinning machine so that twisting may be performed. For twisting to take place thread is brought downwardly from drafting rollers, not shown, into the hollow spindle 2 where it is doubled with a thread from package 28 on spindle 2; the two threads then pass about a tensioner 4 and to a traverse guide 15 whereby the twisted yarn is wound up on a bobbin 5. The thread tensioner 4 which consists of a grooved, braked pulley, see Fig. 3 not shown, is surrounded by a transparent plastics cover and connected by an air tight tube to the lower end of spindle 2 and by a flexible tube 12 to the traverse guide 15. A compression air nozzle is arranged at some point along the yam path so that the yarn can be threaded up by means of a stream of air. Thread tensioning device The tension drive comprises Fig. 3, not shown, two pulley parts (6,7) forming a sharp groove between them and rotatably mounted with friction on a shaft 10. Should one of the threads break the remaining thread will, be of insufficient strength to rotate the pulley and it will break also. Winding device The guide 15 traversed by a shaft 17 is connected to tension device 4 by a flexible tube 12 which provides a path of constant length between device 4 and guide 15. To reduce friction in the tube the inside of the tube may be formed by a compressed helical spring or by a series of rings. The package former 5 is mounted on a pivoted arm (20) see Fig. 4 not shown which is spring urged to press the package against a driving drum 19. The spring is so arranged that when the bobbin is full and lever (20) is lifted the spring holds the package in the raised position. A transparent cover is provided on lever (20) to protect the top of the package from dust.
