Abstract

605.365. Delivery stopping arrangements for spinning &c. machines. PRINCESMITH & STELLS, Ltd., and FEATHER, E. E. Dec. 20, 1945, No. 34556. [Class 120(ii)] An electrically-controlled stop-motion for spinning and like textile machines has a pivoted, biassed, circuit-closing detector supported by a thread and, associated with the circuit, an electromagnetically controlled roving trap, consisting of a polished cylindrical fixed abutment opposite to which a blade carried by the armature of the electromagnet is disposed, the detector being adapted to close the circuit when the thread breaks so that the roving is held by the trap in the rear of the feed rollers. The invention is described as applicable to centrifugal spinning and like machines; such machines, according to the Provisional Specification, are disclosed in Specifications 529,307, 529,308, and 529,309. Roving R from a package 11 passes beneath the abutment 27, against which it is pressed by the blade 28 when the circuit to the electromagnet 24 is closed. From the abutment the roving extends through the drawing head to the detector 14 which has a bifurcated tail 16 normally held from contacts 17 by the pressure of the spun thread as it passes into a holder 5. Thread breakage allows the detector 14 to tilt back, closing the circuit and causing the finger 28 to trap the roving R, which is broken by the cbntinued rotation of the drawing rollers.
