Our present invention relates to twisting mechanisms for spinning, twisting and the like machines.
It has already been proposed to equip twisting mechanisms and double torsion twisting mechanisms with a disconnecting device controlled by a catch-thread mechanism for automatic disconnection, in the event of thread-breakage, of the drive of the spindle and also, if required, the drive to the winding bobbin. Known devices are in general of very complicated and involved construction, so that they are liable to frequent breakdowns. In the majority of cases they also sufler from the defect that the thread guide requires a loading weight or spring of undesirable large dimensions, in view of the fact that the disconnecting operation requires the use of a comparatively great force. This is true whether during operation the feeler has to remove a support holding a loaded lever in lifted position, said support being subjected to high friction pressure, or whether the feeler has to lift a loaded lever which then releases a locking means durin its descent.
The present invention aims at providing a twisting mechanism, particularly a double torsion twisting mechanism having disconnection device controlled by a feeler, which is of simple construction and in which the feeler requires only a moderate load which is permissible even for fine threads.
Tothis end, the present invention consists in combining, with such a known twisting mechanism, particularly a double torsion twisting mechanism, the spindle of which is carried by a support adapted to pivot in a vertical plane and applied by the action of a weight or spring against a driving means, means for deriving the disconnecting movement from the reciprocating movement of the thread guide. These means are constituted in the device according to the invention by two lifting bodies, cooperating with the aid of inclined sliding surfaces, and normally distant from one another, one of which performs a reciprocating movement toegther with the thread guide or arod driving the same, while the second body is disposed on the spindle support and is movable transversely relatively to the direction of movement of the thread guide, in such manner as to be brought, in the event of the breakage of the thread, by the feeler, likewise mounted on the support arm, into the path of the lifting body performing a reciprocating movement. When this takes place, the rocking support of the spindle is rocked, by the wedge acz tion of the lifting cams, out of its working position and lifts the spindle from its driving means. Thus it will be seen that the disengagement of the spindle drive is effected by simple means and over the shortest path, namely by displacing the spindle support by two lifting bodies, one of which is located on the member to be displaced while the other is disposed on the member supplying the displacing force. There is no longer any need of connecting rods, catches, and other cumbersome elements, which consume force and may give rise to breakdowns.
It is also possible to disconnect, together with the spindle drive, the winding bobbin drive also. and this according to the invention may likewise be done in a particularly simple manner by providing on the spindle support, below the winding bobbin driving roller, a support having for preference approximately the shape of a trough, which, at the time of the pivoting of the support, lifts the hollow driving cylinder from a friction roller cooperating in known manner with the internal surface of said cylinder.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, reference is made to the accompanying drawings which illustrate diagrammatically and by way of example, one embodiment thereof, and in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of a double torsion twisting frame in the working position;

In the drawings, l designates the basic body, having the form of a rod of a spindle support which is suspended at 2 in such manner as to be pivotable in a vertical plane, said support carrying, on a leftwardly extending lower arm 3, as viewed in Fig. 1, the double torsion twisting spindle 4. An upper arm 5, located over arm 3, on the support includes guide means constituted by an eye 8 and a roller 1 for the twisted thread running from the spindle 4 towards the winding bobbin 8.
The spindle support I, 8, 5 is rockable between two end positions determined by stops 9. In the 3, end position illustrated in Fig. 1, the wharve of the spindle 4 is applied against a driving means In constituted, for example, by a per se known endless belt. In the opposite end position the wharve is removed from the belt, so that the drive of the spindle is disengaged. Application against the drivingmeans is effected by the dead weight of the spindle and the support. In addition to" this, an energy storage means of the socalled dead centre type is provided, which acts on the spindle support alternately in one direction or the other. This storage means is constituted by a leg inserted between the bottom end of the rod forming the basic support body and a fixed point, this leg being essentially constituted by a helicoidal compression spring II in such manner as to be able to be compressed elastically. The spring is mounted by spherical shoulders I2 on each end, engaging in socketshaped depressions in the rod I and an arm I3 fixed to the frame of the machine, respectively.
The leg is disposed in such manner as to be inclined upwardly to the right, as viewed in Fig. 1, in the position corresponding to the engagement of the spindle drive, and to be inclined upwardly to the left, as viewed in Fig. 1, in the position of disengagement. As a consequence, when spindle support I, 3, is rocked about pivot 2, the leg passes through its dead centre position, which has the effect that, as soon as the support passes the middle position and the leg passes its dead centre position in relation to the support, the leg applies pressure to the spindle support towards the end positions corresponding to the direction of movement of the support.
The winding bobbin 8 and its drive, comprising a hollow driving roller I4 and a friction roller I5 cooperating with the internal surface of said driving roller, are disposed above the upper arm 5 of the spindle support. In this construction, the support arm 5, beneath the driving roller I4, carries a support I5 having substantially the form of a trough, which, at the time of the rocking of the spindle support in the disengagement direction, lifts the driving roller from the friction roller I5, so that the drive to the winding roller is disengaged simultaneously with the disengagement of the twisting spindle.
Above the arm 5 is also located the reciprocating thread guide II, having a slide I8, which moves the twisted thread running onto the winding bobbin to and fro in the direction of the axis of the latter. A lever I9, pivotable in a vertical plane, is mounted on the lower side of the slide I8 of the thread guide, said lever being held by a strong spring 20 in the almost horizontal position of rest, illustrated in Fig. 1. At its free end, the lever I9 carries a lifting body 2I comprising at its upper part two inclined faces in the form of a chevron (see Fig. 5). The lifting body 2| constantly makes a reciprocating movement together with the thread guide.
Lifting body 2| is adapted to cooperate with a port arm 5. The lever 23, which is upwardly directed, has an angle formed therein and is pivotallymounted adjacent to the vertex of the positions determined by the opposite edges of a stop member 31, as is clearly evident from Figs. 1 and 3. Its position is determined by a small weight 24 which is disposed in such manner that the centre of gravity of the lever is situated on one side of the vertical plane of the pivoting axis 25 of the lever in one end position and on the opposite side of said plane in the other end position. In consequence, the weight 24 maintains the lever in the selected end position, while promoting or completing, on rocking of the lever, the movement of the latter towards the other end position, as soon as the lever has passed its middle position. The lever 23, mounted on the support arm 5, is normally located in the position shown in Fig. 1, in which the second lifting body 22 is located away from the first lifting body 2|. When it is brought into the position shown in Fig. 3, the second lifting body 22 comes in contact with the first lifting body 2I, which, due to the cooperation of the inclined surfaces of the two lifting bodies, applies on the spindle support I, 3, 5 a torque in the direction of the movement of disengagement.
On the axle 25 of the lever 23 carrying the lifting body 22 is rotatably mounted a feeler constituted by a light lever 26 which is applied, under the action of a small weight 28 adjustably mounted on a counter-arm 21 on the feeler lever, from below against the twisted thread running from the guide roller I towards the winding bobbin 8. The feeler 26 serves to bring the lifting body 22 into the path of the oscillating lifting body 2| on breakage of the thread. For this purpose the feeler lever drives, at the time of the breakage of the thread, the lever 23 because the hub part 29 of feeler 26 strikes against and moves, after some dead travel, a small driving arm 30 on the lever 23. The'dead travel between the feeler and the lever carrying the lifting body 22 is selected in such manner that the thread guide can follow the twisted thread without driving the lever 23 and the lifting body 22, when the thread has a little slack on stoppage of the machine (see the position shown in Fig. 2). When the twisted thread is once again tightened after the machine is started up, it pushes the feeler back into its normal position (Fig. 1). The hub part 29 of the feeler lever 26 has also a finger 38, which is intended to cooperate with a stop surface formed on the lever 23, for example by the weight 24, in order to return, at the time of the return of the feeler lever to its initial position, the lever 23 carrying the lifting body 22 to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, if this lever should have rocked into the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4 as the result of a breakage of the thread. I
When the twisted thread running from the spindle 4 towards the winding bobbin 8 breaks, the feeler 26rocks upwards under the action of its weight 28, to such an extent that it drives the lever 23 and brings the lifting body 22 into the path of the lifting body reciprocating with the thread guide ,(see Figs. 3 and 4). Due to the cooperation of the inclined surfaces of the two lifting bodies, the spindle support I, 3, 5 is rocked into its, position of disengagement, il-
lustrated in Fig. 4, in which the wharve of the spindle 4 is removed from the belt I0 and in which the driving roller l4 of the winding bobbin is lifted oil its friction roller I5, thus stopping the spindle and the winding bobbin. At the time angle so that it may be rocked between two end 0f the rocking of the support, the dead centre energy storage means constituted by the leg ll passes through its dead centre, which has the eflect that it applies, when the spindle support has passed the middle position, a pressure on said [support directed towards the position of disengagement, in such manner as to complete with certainty the movement of said support. At the time of this operation, the spindle support may be advanced slightly beyond the position determined by the inclined surfaces of the lifting bodies 2| and 22, so that the two lifting bodies do not slide on one another when the spindle is disengaged. When the broken thread is joined, it is replaced in its guide on the feeler lever 28, which thus returns to its initial position as shown in Fig. 1, and in turn, through the medium of the finger 38, likewise returns the lever 23 carrying the lifting body 22 to its initial position shown in Fig. 1. Thereupon the twisting frame is re-started by rocking the support I, 3, 5 by hand into the position of engagement. For this purpose a handle 3| may be provided on the lower arm 3 of the support. At the time of the displacement towards the position of engagement, the elastic leg ll acts, after passing its dead centre position, in the direction of a continuation of the movement of the support towards the position of engagement, and likewise reliably completes that movement. The spindle support is held in the two end positions by the elastic leg.
As is shown in Fig. 6, the elastic leg ll may be replaced by a weighted energy storage means. A lever 33 which is directed upwards is rotatably mounted around a fixed point 32, said lever being articulated by a slot 34 and a pin 35 on the rod i of the spindle support, while it carries at its upper part an adjustable weight 36. The weighted lever arranged in this manner likewise passes through a dead centre position, at the time of the rocking of the support, in such manner as to have the same eifect as the elastic leg illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4.
What we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a means for driving the twist spindle, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, a pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the driving means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; a pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for rotating the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; and linkage means for interconnecting said teeler means and the reciprocating thread-guiding means upon turning movement of said teeler means after breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle and for causing the movement or the thread-guiding means to turn said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means.
2. Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a means for driving the twist spindle, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, means for rotating the bobbin; a pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the driving means during normal operation of the twisting arrang ment; a pivotally mounted feeler means locate on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread traveling toward the collecting bobbin and for rotating the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; linkage means for interconnecting said feeler means and the reciprocating thread-guiding means upon turning movement of said feeler means after breakage of the thread or emptying oi the twist spindle and for causing the movement of the thread-guiding means to turn said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means; and means mounted on said spindle support means for disengaging said bobbin rotating means from the bobbin upon turning of said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means.
3. Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a means for driving the twist spindle, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, a hanging pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the driving means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; a pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for rotating the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; linkage means for interconnecting said feeler means and the reciprocating thread-guiding means upon turning movement of said feeler means after breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle and for causing the movement of the thread-guiding means to turn said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means; and dead center energy storing means for aiding said support'means in maintaining said spindle in engagement with said drive means on one side of dead center and for turning said support in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means on the other side of dead center, whereby upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said linkage means in conjunction with said threadguiding means need only move said support means slightly beyond the dead center position of said energy storing means in the direction which disengages the spindle fromthe drive means.
4. Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a means for driving the twist spindle, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, means for rotating the bobbin; a hanging pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the driving means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; a pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected tosaid feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for rotatingthe same upon 7 breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; linkage means for interconnecting said feeler means and the reciprocating thread-guiding means upon turning movement of said feeler means after breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle and for causing the movement of the thread-guiding means to turn said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means; means mounted on said spindle support means for disengaging said bobbin rotating means from the bobbin upon turning of said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means; and dead center energy storing means for aiding said support means in maintaining said spindle in engagement with said drive means on one side of dead center and for turning said support in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means on the other side of dead center, whereby, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said linkage means in conjunction with said thread-guiding means need only move said support means slightly beyond the dead center posi-- tion of said energy storing means in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means.
5. Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprisingiin combination, a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement;
means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof -approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said thread-guiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; and means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting member causing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means.
6. Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the-bobbin, comprising in combination, means for rotating the bobbin;
' a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle mp port means for maintaimng saidspindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means mounted on saidspindle support means for disengaging said bobbin rotating means from the bobbin upon turning of said support means in the direction which disengages'said spindle from said drive means; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or empty ing of the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting mem-.

Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; means located between said feeler means,
having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the recipro cating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting membercausing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means; and dead center energy storing means for aiding said support in maintaining said spindle in engagement with said drive means on one side of dead center and for turning said support in the direction which disengages the spindle from the guide means on the other side of dead center, whereby, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said lifting members in conjunction with said thread-guiding means need only move said support means slightly beyond the dead center position of said energy storing means 'in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means.

Apparatus for automatically stoppin a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, means for rotating thebobbin; a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means mounted on said spindle support means for disengaging said bobbin rotating means from the bobbin upon turning of said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said thread-guiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting member causing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means; and dead center energy storing means for aiding said support in maintaining said spindle in engagement with said drive means on one side of dead center and for turning said support in the direction which disengages the spindle from the guide means on the other side of dead center, whereby, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle,
said lifting members in conjunction with said thread-guiding means need only move said support means slightly beyond the dead center position of said energy storing means in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means.

Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located ad acent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said threadguiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; and means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting member causing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means, said means located on said end portions of said lifting members comprising at least one inclined surface located on one of said end portions and adapted to engage the other of the end portions after breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle.

Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting'member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said thread-guiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operationof the twisting arrangement; and means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of.
said thread-guiding means to raise said first lift ing member upon turningmovement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying .of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting member causing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means, said means located on said end portions of said lifting members comprising a pair of inclined surfaces located, respectively, on said end portions and adapted .to engage each other after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle.

Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a, twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, means for rotating the bobbin comprising a hollow rotatably mounted tubular member located in engagement with said bobbin and a rotatably mounted driving member of substantially smaller diameter than said tubular member and located against an inner surface portion of said tubular meinber which is adjacent to said bobbin so as to transmit its rotation to said tubular member; a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for main-' taining said spindle in engagement with'the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means mounted on said spindle support means for disengaging said bobbin rotating means from the bobbin upon turning of said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means, said disen a ing means comprising a frame member mounted on said support means and located adjacent to but spaced from said tubular member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement. said turning of said support means causing said frame member to contact said tubular member and lift it out of engagement with saidrotatably mounted driving member; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to 'upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said thread-guiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; and means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting member causing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means.

Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin. comprising in combination, a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of ,the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said recipro-' cating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member. upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said thread-guiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangementfmeans located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting. member causing said supportmeans connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means; and dead center energy storing means for aiding said support in maintaining said spindle in engagement with said drive means on one side of dead center and for turning said support in the direction which disengages the spindle from the guide means on the other side of dead center, whereby,
- upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said lifting members in conjunction with said thread-guiding means need only move said support means slightly beyond the dead center position of said energy storing means in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means, said dead center energy storing means comprising a tiltably and substantially vertically mounted spring member hearing at one end thereof against said support means and adapted to be most compressed when it is in its vertical dead center position, said spring member tending to move said support means in the direction which engages said spindle with said guide means on one side of said vertical dead center position and tending to move said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle ing. pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means mounted on said spindle support means for disengaging said bobbin rotating means, from the bobbin upon turning of said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means;; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; first stop means for limiting the pivotal movement of said first lifting member in both directions; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said threadguiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting member causing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means; dead center energy storing means for aiding said support in maintaining said spindle in engagement with said drive means on one side of dead center and for turning said support in the direction which disengages the spindle from the guide means on the other side of dead center, whereby, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said lifting members in conjunction with said thread-guiding means need only move said support means slightly beyond the dead center position of said energy storing means in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means; and second stop means for limiting the pivotal movement of said support means in both directions.

Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for 14 guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said thread-guiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting member causing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means; and dead center energy storing means for aiding said support in maintaining said spindle in engagement with said drive means on one side of dead center and for turning said support in thedirection which disengages the spindle from the guide means on the other side of dead center, whereby, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said lifting members in conjunction with said threadguiding means need only move said support means slightly beyond the dead center position of said energy storing means in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means, said dead center energy storing means comprising an elongated substantially vertically located member pivotally mounted adjacent the lower end thereof and carrying an adjustably mounted weight adjacent the upper end thereof, said elongated member being connected to said support means, whereby said weight urges said 610111 gated member to move said support means in the direction in which said spindle engages said drive means on one side of the vertical position of said elongated member and whereby said weight urges said support means in the direction in which said spindle is disengaged from said drive means on the other side of the vertical position of said elongated member.

Apparatus for automatically stopping a twisting arrangement having a twist spindle, a twist spindle drive means, a collecting bobbin and a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guiding the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, a hanging, pivotally mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin and for turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said loading means comprising an adjustably mounted weight located on an end portion of said feeler means which is distant from the portion of the same which engages the thread and on that side of the pivotal mounting of said feeler means which is distant from the portion of the same which engages the thread; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member connected to said thread-guiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; and means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement a reciprocating thread-guiding means for guid-' ing the thread onto the bobbin, comprising in combination, means for rotating the bobbin, comprising a hollow rotatably mounted tubular member located in engagement with said bobbin and a rotatably mounted driving member of substantially smaller diameter-than said tubular member and located against an inner surface portion of said tubular member which is adjacent to said bobbin so as to transmit its rotation to said tubular member; a hanging, pivotaily mounted twist spindle support means for maintaining said spindle in engagement with the drive means during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means mounted on said spindle support means for disengaging said bobbin rotating means from the bobbin upon turning of said support means in the direction which disengages said spindle from said drive means, said disengaging means comprising a frame member mounted on said support means and located ad.- jacent to but spaced from said tubular member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement, said turning of said support means causing said frame member to contact said tubular member and lift it out of engagement with said rotatably mounted driving member; pivotally mounted feeler means located on said support means; loading means operatively connected to said feeler means. for lightly urging the same against the thread travelling toward the collecting bobbin andfor turning the same upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle,
said loading means comprising an adiustably mounted weight located on an end portion of said feeler means which is distant from the portion of the same which engages the thread and on that side of the pivotal mounting of said feeler means which is distant from the portion of the same which engages the thread; a first lifting member pivotally mounted on said support means and having an end portion located adjacent to said reciprocating thread-guiding means but spaced therefrom during normal operation of said twisting arrangement; first stop means for limiting the pivotal movement of said first lifting member in both directions; means located between said feeler means and said first lifting member for transmitting the turning movement of said feeler member, upon breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, to said first lifting member for turning the same in the direction in which said end portion thereof approaches said reciprocating thread-guiding means; a second lifting member. connected to said thread-guiding means and having an end portion located adjacent to but spaced from said end portion of said first lifting member during normal operation of the twisting arrangement; means located on said end portions of said lifting members for causing the reciprocating movement of said thread-guiding means to raise said first lifting member upon turning movement thereof after the breakage of the thread or emptying of the twist spindle, said raising of said lifting member causing said support means connected thereto to be turned in the direction in which said twist spindle is disengaged from said drive means, said means located on said end portions of said lifting members comprising a pair of inlifting members in conjunction with said thread-' guiding means need only move said support means slightly beyond the dead center position of said energy storing means in the direction which disengages the spindle from the drive means; and second stop means for limiting the pivotal movement of said suport means in both directions.
