Abstract
595,162. Yarn-tensioning devices. BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and WAINWRIGHT, C. H. May 1, 1945, No. 11009. [Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] A yarn-tensioning device comprises a spring biassed arm 5 and a trapper 6 which is rendered inoperative by downward movement of the arm 5 against the action of the spring. 'The arm is pivoted about a spindle supporting the spring 9 and the spindle is mounted on a platform 2 secured to a column 1. The trapper 6 is freely supported about the column 1 and is held against the bottom of the platform 2 by a collar 14 under the action of a coiled spring 7 encircling the column. The yarn is fed through a hole 8 in the trapper, between the trapper and the bottom of the platform and through a guide 5a on the end of the arm 5, the trapper being held open by the arm as the tension of the yarn is maintained. As the yarn becomes slack, the arm is raised by the spring 9 and the trapper allowed to close so as to prevent further supply. The grip of the trapper may be adjusted by varying the position of a sleeve 15 on the column 1 to compress or relax the spring 7. In order to thread the yarn through the device, the trapper is rotated about the column 1, a spike 6c registering with a cleft 2b to locate the trapper when returned to its normal position and about which it pivots when engaged by the arm.
