Abstract

663.573. Textile drafting apparatus. COLLINS & AIKMAN CORPORATION. Feb. 25, 1949, No. 5228/49. Class 120(ii) In the drawing of fibres of various length the sliver is fed by the rear drawing rollers 12, 13 over a tensioned apron 14, frictionally driven by the roller 13 to the front drawing rollers 10, 11. A porcupine roller 20 frictionally driven by the ends of the: pins contacting the apron, is positioned just behind a guide bar 19, the pins passing through the sliver as it is drawn by the front drawing rollers. The porcupine roller may be formed with a collar 51 on either side of the pins, the effective pin diameter of the roller being almost equal to or less than the diameter of the collars. The apron may be tensioned and depressed by the contact of the porcupine roller. The porcupine roller may be positively driven. In addition a roller 60 may be positioned beneath the apron near to the porcupine roller so that the apron passes between the nip of the roller 60 and collars 51. Alternatively the apron may pass over the nip roller 60 and bar 19 only, being depressed and tensioned by the porcupine roller 45 and weighted roller 39. In this arrangement the nip roller 60 may be reduced at its centre so that the apron resiliently supports the fibres.
