Abstract

415,845. Wet drawing of cotton fibres. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Textile Patent & Process Co. ; 293, Congress Street, Boston, U.S.A.) April 13, 1933, No. 11124. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (ii).] In the drawing or drafting of cotton for spinning a sliver or roving of approximately parallel fibres is subjected to a bath of liquid of sufficiently low surface tension to so thoroughly wet the sliver that it becomes a coherent strand of mutually adhering wet fibres, the strand then being attenuated by being passed between successive sets of rollers. The sliver is passed under a roller 18 in a bath 16 of liquid 14 having a surface tension substantially lower than that of water, e.g. alcohol, benzine, carbon tetrachloride or an aqueous solution of alcohol or soap and is then drawn between the sets of rollers 20, 12, 10. The pairs of rollers are spaced apart a distance greater than the greatest fibre length.
