Abstract

640,909. Wet-spinning of textile yarns. MOUNT VERNON-WOODBERRY MILLS, Inc. Oct. 3, 1946, No. 29498. [Classes 120(ii) and 120(iii)] Yarn from short staple fibres is spun from rovings wetted with water at the end of the drawing stage but prior to twisting, the twisted yarn being substantially free, upon drying, of any residue left from the wetting. A roller 23, partially immersed in a trough 25 containing water, is pressed by springs 13, connected to the ends of arms 12, against the lower roller 5b of the last pair of rollers of a drawing system, so as to transfer water to the roller 5b, from which it is absorbed by the roving passing over it. The water may contain between 0.5 and 3 per cent of a wetting agent. It is stated that " twist-setting " is effected by this method.
