Abstract

979,962. Spinning yarns. CENTRALNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUTE KHOLPCHATOBUMAZHNOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI. Nov. 28, 1962 [Dec. 20, 1961], No. 45673/61. Headings DID and D1F. Yarns are spun by propelling loose fibres into an intense electrostatic field in a central zone of which the fibres accumulate in parallelised form to commence to form yarn which is spun by drawing the fibres away from the field through a rotating clamp and passage the clamp forming at least apart of an electrode for creating the field. A sliver of flax or cotton from a can 1 is drawn through a condensing funnel 2, over a feed table 3 by a fluted roller 4 and introduced into a casing 6 in which a drum 5 having projecting teeth or needles disintegrates the sliver and blows the loose fibres through a duct 7 into an electrostatic field maintained between conical electrodes 9, 10. The latter has a central aperture in which is located the forward end of a twisting tube 11. The fibres become parallelised along the axis AB and are drawn through the twisting tube and spun into yarn thereby. The tube 11 includes a spherical ball 12 in contact both with a rotating circular seat 21 and with a rotating sleeve 17 which is spring urged against the ball, these members forming the rotating clamp and passage through which the yarn is drawn. In a modification (Fig. 2 not shown) the fibres are blown into the field along the axis instead of transversely.
