Abstract

636,682. Yarns ; spinning. UNITED MERCHANTS & MANUFACTURERS, Inc. March 3, 1947, No. 6033. Convention date, March 7, 1946. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] A composite yarn consists of a core made from at least one continuous filament of nylon, polyacrylonitrile or vinyl chloride and acetate copolymer, and a wrapper for the core, said wrapper being of staple fibres twisted about the core but not bonded thereto. The wrapper may comprise spun regenerated cellulose, spun cellulose acetate or a blend of these materials. Alternatively, the wrapper may comprise wool or a blend of wool and spun regenerated cellulose or spun cellulose acetate, or both. The composite yarn may be made by the method which includes twisting a wrapper of staple fibres fed from bobbins 11, 12 of rovings thereof, about a core of nylon or fed from a bobbin 20, the wrapping fibres being drafted at 17, 18 and twisted about the core 20 between the delivery rollers 19 and the ring spinning device 26. The yarn is made up into textile fabric and stabilized by heat while preventing permanent adhesion between the core and wrapper portions of the yarn composing it.
