Abstract

1385063 Spinning yarn AHMEDABAD TEXTILE INDUSTRY'S RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 1 Feb 1972 4640/72 Heading D1F A method of spinning yarn from a roving of cotton fibres in which the roving is drafted followed by combined twisting and winding, is characterised in that the roving is subjected to a wetting treatment with water prior to drafting and is drafted in wet condition. The wetting increases the inter-fibre cohesion and thus less twist is required for a given strength yarn and the production rate is therefore increased. The roving may be wet while subjected to the combined twisting and winding operation, the package being subsequently dried. The roving may be wet by passage through a trough of water with or without wetting agents, or by immersion of a bobbin of roving in a trough of water with or without wetting agents. The roving is drafted between two pairs of rollers and is preferably wound on a ring spinning machine although any conventional combined twisting and winding system may be used.
