Abstract

The output slivers of a group of carding machines are passed through a drawbox (wherein the draft may be 4) and combined and coiled into cans whence the sliver is fed to a speed frame to be drafted (with a draft at least 8) twisted and wound on speed-frame bobbins which are then creeled at a ring-spinning machine and spun directly therefrom. Two or more separate drafted slivers may be combined after drafting at the speed frame and before winding thereat e.g. in or following a "no-draft" (i.e. 1.1 tension draft) zone of the speed frame drafting apparatus.
