Abstract

1377925 Plied yarns; gapped rollers COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION 29 March 1973 [12 April 1972] 15182/73 Headings D1D D1F and D1W A yarn comprising at least two strands 3, 3' plied together wherein there is twist in each individual strand, is produced by a process comprising the steps of separately feeding each strand from a feeding point e.g. the front drafting rollers 2 of a drafting unit, converging the strands at a convergence point e.g. guide 12, twisting the strands together e.g. on a cap or ring spinning machine, and intermittently blocking the twist at a position between the convergence point of the strands and the point of application of the twist. The twist blocking is preferably achieved by a pair of rollers 7 and 8 one of which has a cutaway portion 11 in its circumference whereby the converged strands are intermittently engaged by the nip. The rollers 7 and 8 are arranged to run at the same speed as the feed of the strands. The strands 3, 3' are fed at substantially the same speed and symmetrically relative to the convergence guide 12. The strands 3, 3' are preferably wool rovings.
