1332790 Spinning yarns; roller arrangements in spinning machines COURTAULDS Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 Feb 1970] 8749/70 Headings D1D D1F and D1W In the manufacture of a fancy yarn in which one or more effect yarns form loops around one or more core yarns, a roving which has been drafted between at least two pairs of drafting rollers (and as it emerges from the nip of the front rollers) receives core yarn supplied at a slower speed than the roving passes through such nip and all the strands are fed together to a twisting device whereby the roving is twisted into yarn and this is twisted about the core yarn. The resultant yarn may be subjected to a further spinning operation together with binder yarn. In the operation of each spinning head on a spinning machine, a roving 6 passes from package 11, through back drafting rollers 14, 15, the nip of guide rollers 36, 37 in the drafting zone, and the nip formed between a central band of the lower front drafting roller 27 and the upper drafting roller 28. Two core yarns, as at 26, follow similar but separated paths, without drafting, from cheeses as at 9, beneath bar 42, guides as at 23 and 29, and separate grooves in roller 27 (wherein they are confined by the surface of the roller 28). From the front drafting rollers the yarns and roving pass to a fly spindle 35 whereby the fancy yarn is formed.
