Abstract

1430727 Spinning yarns; drawing frames; roller arrangements PLATT SACO LOWELL Ltd 16 Aug 1974 36239/74 Headings DID D1F and D1N In a yarn forming process, at least two strands are each drafted and directed to a convergence point whereat they combine to form a composite strand structure which is unidirectionally twisted downstream of such point (to form the yarn) with the twist running back thereto and into the strands upstream thereof. The drafting is such as to produce in each strand a cyclical variation e.g. sinusoidal, in thickness along the length thereof and the strands are so combined e.g. by direction along paths of different length, that the composite structure has uniform thickness. In the drafting and twisting apparatus shown, two rovings passing through back rollers 2, condensers 3, aprons 4 and front rollers 5 are each variably drafted as a result of (variably) eccentric rotation of wheel 9 which drives roller 5a through a spring-tensioned chain 8 and gear wheel 7. The drafted rovings 16 and 17 are separated and directed on paths of different length by a spacer plate 13 and a roller 12, which forms a nip with roller 5b and is angularly adjustable in relation thereto, and travel to a lappet guide 14 of a ring and traveller device 15 to be combined and twisted.
