Abstract

1,207,811. Crimping yarns. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Aug., 1968 [4 Sept., 1967], No. 40241/67. Headings D1F and D1W. In a "dammed twist" process for making twist-crimped, filament yarn, filamentary strands which are not intertwisted and each of which comprises at least one filament are led at equal and controlled speeds through feeding and forwarding devices between which the strands have been pre-intertwisted by relative rotation between coaxially aligned guide assemblies, each strand passing through one guide of each such assembly which is symmetrically spaced round a circle in a plane normal to the twisted length of strand, and the strands are deflected through equal angles by the guides. The twist is set, with the strands running and the guide assemblies secured against rotation, by heating and cooling between the assemblies. Melt spun filaments may be drawn between the devices and at least partly before the twister zone. Oppositely twisted strands may be combined to form balanced torque yarns.
