Abstract

1426944 Spinning and doubling yarns PLATT SACO LOWELL LTD 6 Aug 1974 [21 May 1973] 24151/73 Heading D1F Cabled or partly e.g. semi-cabled yarn is formed in a single continuous process by separably double twisting in one direction two or more ply yarns which are then combined and twisted in the opposite direction, packages and twisted in the opposite direction, perhaps to impart the same amount as (or one half of) the double twist, by ring and traveller apparatus. As shown, supply yarns from packages 1 mounted on each of let-off spindles 2 and 3 on double twisted thereby and the resultant ply yarns 2 and 3 are forwarded by roller 6 to a ring and traveller apparatus 7 whereby the yarns are combined with opposite twist. If necessary, cabling is then complete in an additional stage on a conventional doubling machine by a ring and traveller apparatus. The process may be effected by frames alternately comprising rows of doubling let-off spindles and ring and traveller devices with the ply yarns fed thereto and therebetween on overhead paths and with spaces between frames providing operation walkways, Fig. 2 (not shown).
