Abstract

823,912. Crimping yarns; twist tubes. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., E. Aug. 14, 1957 [Aug. 23, 1956], No. 8378/58. Divided out of 818,950. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) In a yarn crimping process, false-twist is imparted to a running synthetic filament yarn by engagement of the yarn with a fixed friction surface of a solid of revolution and movement of the yarn at right angles to its own axis at the locus of contact with the surface. As shown, yarn 13 drawn through a heater (not shown). wherein the twisted yarn is set, passes through guides 16 and 17 between which it travels across a convex friction surface 10 presented by an annulus of resilient material such as synthetic rubber fixed within a ring 18 carried by a bracket 19, thence through the lower part of a hollow spindle 15 which carries the guides 16, 17 and, when rotated, causes the yarn to be rolled about its own axis to impart false twist thereto.
