Abstract

A vat dye containing sulphur is obtained by heating 2-aminoanthraquinone with alkali metal sulphide and sulphur to temperatures above 250 DEG C. The product gives brown-black shades. In an example, an aqueous suspension of 2-aminoanthraquinone and sulphur is evaporated to dryness with a sodium tetrasulphide solution and the residue baked at 280 DEG C. for twelve hours.
