Abstract

Leuco sulphuric acid esters of vat dyestuffs are made by reacting the leuco compound of the vat dyestuff or a metal salt or complex compound thereof with sulphur trioxide or a compound yielding sulphur trioxide in the presence of a compound of the formula <FORM:0896937/IV (c)/1> <FORM:0896937/IV (c)/2> where R1 and R2 are alkyl groups. A diluen may be present. The leuco compound may be obtained by reacting the vat dyestuff with a metal and an anhydrous acid. Specifications 274,156, 585,106 and 633,481 are referred to.
