Abstract

The invention comprises vat dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0891794/IV (c)/1> where A is an anthraquinone residue bound directly or through an oxdiazole ring to the -NH-group and which may be substituted and may contain a fused-on carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring, X is hydroxyalkylamino or sulphatoalkylamino and n is 1 or 2. The dyes are made by reacting an appropriate aminoanthraquinone with a compound of the formula <FORM:0891794/IV (c)/2> where Z is chlorine hydroxyalkylamino or sulphatoalkylamino and when Z is chlorine, condensing the product with a sulphato- or hydroxy-alkylamine. The dyes containing a sulphatoalkylamino group may also be made by sulphating the dyes containing a hydroxyalkylamino group. The dyestuffs dye and print textile materials of natural or regenerated cellulose a variety of shades from a vat or from an aqueous dispersion in conjunction with an alkali and heat treatment.
