Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of the formula:- <FORM:0907242/IV (b)/1> where R is a dihalogeno- or trihalogeno-pyrimidyl radical, A is hydrogen or an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R1 is a <FORM:0907242/IV (b)/2> phenylene radical containing the group in para position to the -NH- group or a diphenylene radical containing the <FORM:0907242/IV (b)/3> group in the 411-position, R2 is a carbalkoxy group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkylcarbonyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenylcarbonyl group which may be substituted, and R3 is hydroxy, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or phenyl which may be substituted when R2 is carbalkoxy, or is hydroxy when R2 is alkylcarbonyl or phenylcarbonyl. The dyes are made by reacting a tri- or tetrahalogenopyrimidine with a dyestuff of the formula:- <FORM:0907242/IV (b)/4> in the presence of an acid-binding agent. The dyestuffs dye and print fibres of synthetic polyamides, animalised cellulose, regenerated cellulose and casein and mixtures of such fibres and leather in conjunction with an alkali and heat treatment red, blue and violet shades. Examples are given.
