Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of the formula:-<FORM:0772030/IV(b)/1> wherein R is hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical, and Y is hydrogen or sulpho, and phenylene radical A may be further substituted, R may be alkyl, aralkyl, or cycloalkyl, which may be substituted. Radical A may contain an ionogenic solubilising group such as sulpho or carboxy. They are made by reacting one mol cyanuric chloride with one mol of a component of the formula:- <FORM:0772030/IV(b)/2> (itself made by reacting the corresponding 4 - bromo - anthraquinone with an aromatic diamine of the formula:- <FORM:0772030/IV(b)/3> preferably in aqueous medium below 5 DEG C., the dyestuff being isolated in presence of a buffering agent at a pH of 6-8. The products dye or print cotton or viscose blue or reddish-blue shades. In examples, cyanuric chloride in acetone is reacted with (1) 1 - amino - 4 - (41-methyl-aminoanilino) - anthraquinone - 2 : 31 : 5-trisulphonic acid; (2) 1 - amino - 4 - (41-methylaminoanilino) - anthraquinone 2, 31 - disulphonic acid (3) 1 - amino - 4 - (41-n - butylaminoanilino) - anthraquinone - 2, 31 - disulphonic acid, (4) 1 - amino - 4 - (41 - cyclohexylamino - anilino) - anthraquinone - 2, 31 - disulphonic acid, (5) 1 - amino - 4 - (41 - methylamino - 31-carboxyanilino) - anthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid, (6) 1 - amino - 4 - [31 - b - hydroxyethylamino) - anilino] anthraquinone - 2, 5 - disulphonic acid.
