Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0891774/IV (c)/1> wherein Ar is a phenylene radical, n is a whole number equal to or greater than 1 and where the anthraquinone moiety can be further substituted, and mixtures of dyestuffs of the above formula wherein the hydroxy radical has been partially replaced by a further -NH-Ar-(COOCH2CH2OH)n group. Further substituents specified are nitro, hydroxyl or -NH-Ar-(COOCH2CH2OH)n groups or halogen atoms. The dyestuffs and mixtures thereof are made by reacting at an elevated temperature an anthraquinone of the formula <FORM:0891774/IV (c)/2> or <FORM:0891774/IV (c)/3> wherein the anthraquinone moiety may be further substituted, in admixture with its leuco compound, with an arylamine of the formula H2N-Ar-(COOCH2CH2OH)n The dyestuffs dye polyester and polyamide fibres. red-grey to violet shades from aqueous dispersion.
