Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0819956/IV (c)/1> where Ar is the residue of an o-hydroxy-aryl carboxylic acid which may bear additional substituents, R is hydrogen or alkyl and where the phenylene residue may bear additional substituents, such as one or more alkyl groups and/or chlorine atoms. The nucleus of radical Ar may be benzene or naphthalene and may be further substituted by a methyl group. The dyes are made by reacting a 1-amino-4-(aminoanilido) - anthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid with a sulphonic acid chloride of an o-hydroxyaryl carboxylic acid. Examples are given. The dyestuffs dye wool blue or greenish-blue shades and the dyeings may be after-chromed. The 1 - amino - 4 - (aminoanilido) - anthra - quinone-2-sulphonic acids are made by reacting 1 - amino-4-bromoanthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid with an appropriate phenylene diamine.
