Abstract
Natural or regenerated cellulose textile materials are dyed or printed with a dyestuff containing at least one group of the formula <FORM:0831371/IV(c)/1> wherein Y represents a direct link, an alkylene radical or a phenylene radical, R and R1 represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl radicals and X represents a halogen atom, treatment with an alkaline agent, e.g. an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate, also being effected before, together with or after the application of the dyestuff. Reaction of the dyestuff with the fibre is facilitated by a subsequent heat treatment, e.g. in hot air or steam. Suitable dyestuffs are of the azo, azomethine and anthraquinone series and those of insufficient solubility are applied from aqueous dispersion. Groups of the above formula may be united directly or through a nitrogen atom with a nuclear ring of the dyestuff molecule. Examples of the radical Y in the above formula are -CH2-, -CH(CH3)-, -CHCl-, -C2H4-, -CCl(CH3)- and mono-chloro, -bromo and -nitro phenylene radicals. Specified examples of X are chlorine and bromine atoms. Numerous examples of dyeing and printing are given. Specified dyestuffs are the following:- <FORM:0831371/IV(c)/2>
