Abstract

The invention comprises anthraquinone vat dyestuffs of the formula:- <FORM:0865816/IV(c)/1> where R is the radical of a dicarboxylic acid or a triazine radical, one X of each anthraquinone nucleus representing an alkoxy group containing at most 4 carbon atoms and the other X being a hydrogen atom. The dyestuffs are made by reacting 2 mols of a 1-amino-anthraquinone containing an alkoxy group of at most 4 carbon atoms in the 6- or 7-position with 1 mol of a reactive derivative of an organic dicarboxylic acid or with cyanuric chloride and, in the latter case, if desired reacting the product with ammonia or an amine. The vat dyestuffs dye and print material of natural or regenerated cellulose yellow to greenish-yellow tints and dye polyethylene terephthalate materials from aqueous dispersion. They may also be used as pigments.
