Abstract

The invention comprises vat dyes which contain at least one thiosulphuric acid semiester group attached through an alkylene group and not more than 5 carbocyclic rings fused together. The invention also comprises a process for the manufacture of vat dyes wherein a vat dye containing a sulphatoalkyl group, a halogen atom in a triazine or pyrimidine nucleus, a sulphohalide, carboxylic acid-halide or halogenoalkylamide group and not more than 5 carbocyclic rings fused together is reacted with a primary or secondary amine containing at least one thiosulphuric acid semi-ester group attached through an alkylene group. The alkylene group may be attached to the dye nucleus directly or through a bridging group, for example, a sulphamyl, sulphamylbenzoylamino, sulphamylphenylaminotriazinylamino or phenylaminotriazinylamino group, and the alkylene chain may be interrupted by hetero atoms. Examples describe dyes of the above type belonging to the following series: N : N1-diethyldipyrazole - anthronyl, perylene tetracarboxylic acid diimide, naphthalene tetracarboxylic acid di-benzimidazole, dianthraquinonyl - oxdiazole, anthraquinone - thiazolylanthraquinone, triazinylamino - anthraquinone, dianthrimide - carbazole, anthranaphthacridine, condensation products of dicarboxylic acids or halo-triazines with amino-acylamino-anthraquinones and of the formula <FORM:0962353/C4-C5/1> Specifications 490,945, 510,453, 891,794, 892,382, 902,364, 923,740, 925,998 and 929,745 are referred to.ALSO:Textile materials of natural or regenerated cellulose are vat-dyed or printed using vat dyes which contain at least one thiosulphuric acid semiester group attached through an alkylene group and not more than 5 carbocyclic rings fused together.
