Abstract

Dyes are obtained by condensing perylene-3.4.9.10-tetracarboxylic acid or a functional derivative or substitution product thereof with an aromatic amine of the formula: <FORM:0788777/IV (b)/1> wherein X is chlorine or bromine, and Y is hydrogen, chlorine or bromine. In examples: (1) perylene-3.4.9.10-tetracarboxylic acid or its anhydride is condensed with 4-chloro- or bromo-2-amino-1-methyl-benzene in excess in presence of zinc chloride; (2) the same anhydride is condensed with 4.5-dichloro-2-amino-1-methylbenzene hydrochloride in quinoline in presence of zinc chloride; (3) dichloro-perylene-tetracarboxylic acid anhydride is condensed with 4-chloro - 2 - amino - 1 - methylbenzene in presence of zinc chloride. The products dye or print cotton or viscose yellowish scarlet shades. Specification 201,786, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
