Abstract
The invention comprises vat dyes of the formula: <FORM:0855710/IV (c)/1> and nuclear substitution products thereof, wherein the substituents are chlorine, bromine, amino, methyl, or ethyl, and a process of preparing them by heating the corresponding dipyrazolanthronyls with acrylonitrile in excess by weight in presence of an organic quaternary nitrogen base at 50 DEG -100 DEG C., preferably in presence of a solvent. The products may be halogenated in a solvent such as chlorsulphonic acid or converted to leuco sulphuric esters. They yield dark red shades on cotton. In examples, (1) dipyrazolanthronyl is reacted with excess acrylonitrile in presence of tetraethanol ammonium hydroxide or of trimethylphenyl ammonium hydroxide, and (2) 4, 41- dimethyldipyrazolanthronyl or 8, 81- diaminodipyrazolanthronyl is reacted with acrylonitrile in presence of tetraethanol ammonium hydroxide. Also in examples, p the product of (1) is brominated, and converted to its sodium leuco-sulphuric ester salt.
