Abstract

Dyes are made by melting a B2, 1 - benzanthronyl - 5 - amino - 1, 11 - dianthrimide with a complex of aluminium chloride and a base or subjecting a B2, 1 - benzanthronyl - 5 - amino - 1, 11 - dianthrimide carbazole to an alkali melt. The dyestuff may be aftertreated with fuming sulphuric or chlorosulphonic acid. The products dye cotton greenish-brown, olive, or khaki shades. In examples, (1) B2, 1 - benzanthronyl - 5 - amino - 1, 11 - dianthrimide is heated with aluminium chloride and pyridine, isoquinoline, quinoline, dimethyl aniline, or ammonia, and the product obtained using pyridine is treated with chlorsulphonic, and that obtained using isoquinoline is treated with fuming sulphuric acid. Also (2) the condensation product from 5 - amino - 1, 11 - dianthrimide carbazole and B2, 1 - brombenzanthrone is heated with alcoholic potassium hydroxide.
