Abstract
Dyes are made by treating a 5-amino-1.-4, diaroylaminoanthraquinone with an acylating reagent derived from an anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid which carries in 1-position an amino or nitro group or a halogen atom. The nitro group or halogen atom may subsequently be converted to an amino group, e.g. by vatting in the case of a nitro group, or by reaction with ammonia. The products dye cotton, viscose and natural silk bordeaux shades. In examples: (1) 5-amino-1,4-dibenzoylaminoanthraquinone is reacted with 1-nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride followed by reaction with ammonia, or with 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic chloride; (2) 5-amino-1,4-di-p-methane-sulphonylbenzoylaminoanthraquinone is reacted with 1-nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic chloride and then with ammonia; (3) 5-amino-1,4-di-p-toluylaminoanthraquinone is reacted with 1-nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride. Other 5-amino-1,4-diaroylaminoanthraquinones specified are 5-amino-1,4-di-m-or p - methanesulphonylbenzoylaminoanthraquinone, 5 - amino - 1,4 - dianisylaminoanthraquinone, 5-amino-1,4-di-p-chlorbenzoylaminoanthraquinone.
