Abstract

The invention comprises new vat dyes obtainable by introducing sulphonamide groups into (a) a dyestuff obtainable by condensing a B2.1-benzanthronylaminodianthrimide with an aluminium chloride complex or (b) a dyestuff obtainable by condensing a B2.1-benzanthronylaminodianthrimide carbazole with alcoholic potassium hydroxide, by treating with chlorosulphonic acid and reacting the compound thus obtained with ammonia, or a primary or secondary amine or a cyclic nitrogen-containing base such as piperidine or morpholine. In examples, the products of Examples (1) and (6) of Specification 773,116, representing respectively (a) and (b) above, are reacted with chlorsulphonic acid, alone or mixed with phosphorus, pentachloride or thionyl chloride, and the sulphochlorides obtained are each reacted with ammonia, mono- or di-methylamine, piperidine, morpholine, 1.2.3.4 - tetrahydroquinoline or aniline.
