Abstract

The invention comprises dyes which, in their free acid form, are of formula <FORM:0838344/IV(c)/1> where A may contain substituents other than OH and NH2 groups, R is H or alkyl and one of X1 and X2 is H and the other SO3H. They are made by reacting appropriate aminoazo dyes with cyanuric bromide. The aminoazo compounds used are those of the parent Specification which also discloses preferred reaction details. The dyes dye or print cellulosic materials by methods which preferably include an alkali treatment vide Specification 797,946. Red and orange shades are obtained. An example is provided of the preparation of a dye from cyanuric bromide and the dye 2-naphthylamine-4,8-disulphonic acid --> m-toluidine.
