Abstract
The invention provides water-insoluble dyes of general formula <FORM:1033917/C4-C5/1> in which r is a methyl, methoxy or ethoxy group and R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms or a phenyl or naphthyl group which may be substituted by halogen atoms, alkyl and/or alkoxy groups. The dyes are prepared by diazotizing an amine of formula <FORM:1033917/C4-C5/2> and coupling with a compound of formula <FORM:1033917/C4-C5/3> or by treating a carboxylic acid halide of formula <F\4> with ammonia or primary aliphatic or aromatic amine; or a carboxylic acid chloride of formula <FORM:1033917/C4-C5/4> is condensed with 1-amino-2-methyl or methoxy or ethoxy-benzene. The compounds of Formula II may bear a group -CH2X in the a position of the naphthalene nucleus (X is a radical of a primary or secondary amine, a residene, or of piperidine or morpholine) the group -CH2X being split off in the coupling process. The dyes give orange-red colours and coupling processes may be effected in the presence of pyridine and wetting agents. An after-treatment of the dyestuff with resin soap with or without calcium chloride improve the granular condition of the dye.ALSO:Cotton fabric is dyed with azo dyes formed on the fibre, the dyes being of general formula <FORM:1033917/D1-D2/1> in which R is a methyl, methoxy or ethoxy group and R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms or a phenyl or naphthyl group which may be substituted by halogen atoms, alkyl and/or alkoxy groups. The material is treated with a solution of coupling component of formula <FORM:1033917/D1-D2/2> followed by treating with a diazo compound obtained from an amine of formula <FORM:1033917/D1-D2/3> Examples 5 and 10 use the above method, red-orange shades are obtained and references to dyeing vegetable, animal, and synthetic fibrous materials as well as spinning solutions, paper, lacquers and films are included.
