Abstract

Polyester fibres are coloured with dyestuffs of the general formula <FORM:0884655/IV (c)/1> where R is the residue of an amine of the benzene series and X is an alkyl group. The fibres may be dyed with an aqueous dispersion of the dyestuff under superatmospheric pressure and at temperatures above 100 DEG C., preferably between 101 DEG C. and 150 DEG C., or they may be foularded with an aqueous dispersion of the dyestuff and then either steamed under superatmospheric pressure or subjected to temperatures between 150 DEG C. and 200 DEG C. In preparing the dyebaths, dispersing agents (e.g. alkyl-arylsulphonates and condensation products of sulphonated aromatic derivatives with aldehydes, particularly methylene dinaphthyl-sulphonates) may be added, and dye carriers, e.g. mono- or poly-chlorinated benzene derivatives or diphenyl, and antistatic agents, e.g. condensation products of compounds containing an active hydrogen atom with ethylene oxides, and quaternary ammonium salts having a fatty chain, may be added. The fibres may also be printed with pastes containing an aqueous dispersion of the dyestuff and steamed under superatmospheric pressure. Dispersing agents and carriers may be added to the paste. Examples are given.
