Abstract

Articles of polyolefines containing organic nickel chelate complexes are dyed with solutions or dispersions of metallisable azo or azomethine dyes which are free from acid, salt-forming groups or contain only such salt-forming groups which are capable of taking part in the metal complex formation. The specified nickel complexes are derived from alkylated diphenols (the alkyls containing 4-12 C atoms), 2, 21-dihydroxy-5,51-diisooctyl-diphenyl sulphide, acetylacetone and dimethylglyoxime. A number of suitable metallisable groupings are specified for the dyestuffs as well as a number of other suitable substituents. Dyeing is performed from a weakly alkaline to weakly acid solution or dispersion, preferably above 100 DEG C. and under pressure. The aqueous dispersions may contain dispersants a few of which are specified. Printing may be performed with a thickened paste and fixation may be achieved by steaming. Examples are given of dyeing and printing fibres of polyethylene and polypropylene.
