Abstract

1,053,614. Dyeing and printing cellulose. SANDOZ PATENTS Ltd. Feb. 7, 1964 [Feb. 8, 1963], No. 5364/64. Heading D1B. Fibres of natural or regenerated cellulose are dyed or printed with dyes, or dye precursors, which contain at least one reactive amino or hydroxyl group and treated with a compound of the formula: wherein Hal is Cl or Br, X is H or -CH 3 and R 1 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical of at least 6 C atoms; when dye precursors are employed they are then converted into the finished dyestuffs. Of the numerous compounds of Formula (I) specified those employed in the examples are N-cyclohexyl and N - cyclooctyl- N,N-bis-(#-chloroethyl)-aminehydrochloride. Said compounds may be applied to the fibres before, after or simultaneously with the dyestuff and fixation may be carried out (a) in the dyebath or in a fresh bath in the presence of acid-binding agents at 20-100‹C., (b) with dry heat at 110-200‹C. under neutral to acid conditions or (c) by steaming at 100-150‹C. under neutral to acid conditions. The presence of a non-ionic dispersant in the fixing bath is sometimes advisable. Examples of dyeing and padding fabrics of cotton and viscose in which a number of direct dyes and some disazo-copper complex dyes are specified are given.
