Abstract

Fibres and foils of aromatic polyesters are dyed or printed by applying at an elevated temperature an aqueous dispersion of a dioxazine dyestuff obtainable by subjecting to ring closure a diarylaminobenzoquinone of the formula:- <FORM:879519/IV(c)/1> wherein X represents a halogen atom and R1, R2, R3 and R4 represent hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, arylamino or acylamino groups. Dyeing may be effected at about 100 DEG C. in the presence of a carrier such as chlorobenzene, o-phenylphenol or a 2-hydroxynaphthalene-ethylene oxide condensation product. Alternatively, dyeing may be effected at a temperature above 100 DEG C., under pressure. The dyebath or paste contains the usual dispersing agents and thickeners. Examples are given.
