Abstract

Dyes are obtained by reacting 1,5- or 1,8-diamino-anthraquinone or mixtures thereof with bromine at 40-100 DEG C. in water, dilute sulphuric acid or sulphuric acid containing SO3 and subsequently heating the reaction product at 120-190 DEG C. with sulphuric acid containing SO3 in the presence of boric acid. The dyes so obtained contain 15-19% O and 20-38% Br. Examples are given.ALSO:Dyeings and prints on fibres or foils of aromatic polyesters, polyamides, cellulose acetate or triacetate are obtained by treatment at a raised temperature with a disperse dye obtained by reacting 1,8- or 1,5-diaminoanthraquinone or mixtures thereof with bromine at 40-100 DEG C. in water, dilute or concentrated sulphuric acid or sulphuric acid containing SO3 and subsequently heating the reaction product at a 120-190 DEG C. with sulphuric acid containing SO3 in the presence of boric acid. The dyeing may be carried out in an aqueous medium or suspension at 80-110 DEG C. with a carrier or at 110-140 DEG C. without a carrier. Fixation by steaming or dry heating may follow. Examples are given.
