Abstract

1,274,440. Impregnation dyeing of synthetic fibre materials. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 10 July, 1970 [12 July, 1969], No. 33615/ 70. Heading D1B. [Also in Division C4] Synthetic fibre materials of polyesters, cellulose triacetate, polyamides, polyurethanes or polyolefins are dyed from organic solvents by impregnation with dyeing liquors containing anthraquinone compounds of formula: wherein R is hydroxyl or amino; R' is H, Cl or Br; X is H or OH or one X is OH and the other a nitro or amino group; Y is a direct linkage or an oxygen atom; n is 1, 2 or 3 and B is a C 1 -C 9 alkyl group, or a cycloalkyl or aralkyl radical, which is optionally substituted by alkyl, the total number of carbon atoms in the substituent or substituents B being at least 2 and at most 9; and subsequently subjecting the materials to a heat treatment. Suitable organic solvents are immiscible with water and have boiling points between 40- 150‹C. Such solvents include aromatic hydrocarbons, aromatic halogenated hydrocarbons or aliphatic halogenated hydrocarbons. The process is carried out by dissolving the dyestuffs in the organic solvents and adding them in solution in solvents which are miscible with the organic solvents to be used and impregnating the synthetic fibre materials with the dyestuff solutions. The dyes are then fixed on to the fibre materials by heat treatment. The heat treatment may consist of a dry heat treatment at 120-150‹C, in which case the treatment can optionally be preceded by an intermediate drying or by treatment of the fibre materials in superheated solvent vapour at 100-150‹C. Mixtures of dyestuffs may also be used in the process. The dyestuff solutions may contain soluble auxiliary agents e.g. condensation products of phenols and ethylene oxide to improve the uniformity of the dyeing. The resulting shades are reddish or greenish tinged blue, blue or violet.
