Abstract

1278179 Dyeing synthetic fibres in organic solvents FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 16 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 59709/70 Heading D1B [Also in Division C4] Synthetic fibre materials are dyed by an process in organic water immiscible solvents with a dye of formula I: in which R is a hydroxyl or amino group, R 1 is a hydrogen atom or chlorine or bromine atom, a phenyloxy, or phenylthio group or a group of formula -SB 2 or of formula II III or IV: in which n is 1 or 2, X is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group or one X is hydroxyl the other X is a nitro or an amino group, R, is hydrogen or a C 1 to C 3 alkyl or C 1 to C 3 alkoxy group, B B 1 and B 2 are independantly a C 1 to C 18 alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aralkyl radical with the proviso that the sum of the carbon atoms present in the substituents B B 1 and B 2 is at least 5 and at most 22, the materials being first impregnated and then subjected to a heat treatment e.g. a dry heat at 120 to 230‹C or in superheated solvent vapour at 100 to 150‹C. Polyester, cellulose triacetate, polyamides, polyurethane and polyolefines are dyed, preferred solvents are water immiscible and of boiling point between 40 and 150‹C e.g. tetrachloroethylene, trichloroethylene, 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane, and 1, 1, 1-trichloropropane. An additional water-miscible solvent may be used to dissolve the dye before adding to the waterimmiscible solvent.
