Abstract

Textile fabrics comprising cellulose triacetate or aromatic polyester fibres are mechanically impregnated with a dischargeable dye and printed with a composition containing a reducing agent, a polyethylene glycol having a M.W. 15,000-20,000 and a dispersed dye free from azo groups and the so-treated fabric is then dried and heated in the dry state to 200-220 DEG C. for 20 seconds to 1 minute. The impregnation and printing may be carried out in either sequence. The printing composition may further contain Mg cations and thiocyanate anions, e.g. as MgSO4 and NaSCN or Mg(SCN)2, as well as humectants, penetrants, hydrotropic agents and anti-frothing agents. The dispersed dyes are especially derivatives of anthraquinone or diphenylamine. The reducing agent may be thiourea dioxide, a salt or an aldehyde or ketone condensate of sulphoxylic acid. Examples are given.
