Abstract
Aromatic polyester fibres are dyed or printed with a disperse dyestuff of the formula: <FORM:0855488/IV (c)/1> wherein X represents a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom, Y represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and "alkyl" contains 1-4 carbon atoms. Dyeing may be effected at 80 DEG -100 DEG C. in the presence of the usual carriers or at 100 DEG -140 DEG C. under pressure without carriers. The dyeing or printing liquors contain the usual dispersing and thickening agents, many of which are specified. Prints or pad-dyeings may be fixed by steaming at 100 DEG -150 DEG C., or by heating in air at 90 DEG -200 DEG C. Numerous examples are given. The dyestuffs may be prepared by coupling a 1- diazo- 2- cyano -4- nitrobenzene which may be halogenated in the 6-position with the appropriate N-cyanoethyl -N- alkylaminobenzene or 1- N- cyanoethyl -N- alkylamino -3-methyl benzene in an acid medium.
