Abstract

Sulphur dyes are made by heating with caustic alkali solution for at least five hours a sulphurization product obtained by treating 1.5-dinitronaphthalene containing not more than 5 per cent 1.8-dinitronaphthalene with alkali polysulphide solution above 200 DEG C in presence of a copper salt under conditions such that the sulphurization product is free from iron. The products dye cotton red-brown tints. Two examples each using copper sulphate and caustic soda are given. Specification 19271/00, [Class 2], is referred to.
