Abstract

Brown sulphur dyestuffs are prepared by heating 2-methyl-3-amino-6-oxyphenazine with alkali polysulphide and with or without a metal compound to above 180 DEG C. In examples the compound is heated with sodium sulphide and sulphur to 190 DEG C. to yield a dyestuff giving brown tints on cotton from a sodium sulphide bath, and with sodium sulphide and copper sulphate to 235-240 DEG C. to obtain a dyestuff dyeing cotton blackish-brown from a sulphide bath.
