Abstract

Anthraquinone derivatives.-A vat dye is obtained by fusing 2-mercapto-1-methylanthraquinone with sulphur. 2-halogen - 1 - methylanthraquinone may also be employed with the addition of substances facilitating the substitution of sulphur for halogens, of which the sulphides, thiocyanates, hydroxides and oxides and weak acid salts of the alkali and alkaline earth metals are specified. According to examples 2 mercapto-1-methylanthraquinone obtained by treating 2-chlor-1-methylanthraquinone with sodium sulphide, is fused with sulphur to give an orange-yellow dye, and 2-chlor-1-methyl-anthraquinone itself gives an identical product on treatment with sodium sulphide and sulphur. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 4536/10 and 4537/10, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.].
