Abstract

Monosulphonic acids of 1-monoalkylamino-4-p-oxyaryl-naphthylamines are prepared by treating an indophenol from a monoalkyl-a -naphthylamine and a p-aminophenol with a salt of sulphurous acid. In an example, 1-monoethylamino -4-p-oxyphenyl-naphthylamine monosulphonic acid is prepared by heating the indophenol from ethyl-a-naphthylamine and p-aminophenol with sodium bisulphite. Sulphuretted dyes which dye cotton in green shades are obtained by heating the above described sulphonic acids with alkali polysulphides in the presence of copper. An example is given in which the 1-ethylamino-4-p-oxyphenylnaphthylamine sulphonic acid is boiled with sodium polysulphide solution and copper sulphate.
