Abstract

296,758. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Sept. 7, 1927, [Convention date]. Anthraquinone vat dyes are obtained by treating a dyestuff obtainable by fusing 1 : 5- or 1 : 8- di-a-anthraquinonylaminoanthraquinone with alkaline condensing agents (Specification 15846/09), or with metallic chlorides (Specification 12921/10 and German Specifications 249,000 and 251,350), with concentrated sulphuric acid at a temperature below 15‹ C., diluting the mixture with water and oxidizing the precipitate obtained. In an example, the dyestuff obtainable according to example 2 of Specification 12921/10 is treated with sulphuric acid at a temperature below 5‹ C. and the precipitate obtained on dilution of this solution oxidized with sodium hypochlorite. The analogous treatment of the dyestuff from 1 : 8-di-a-anthraquinonylaminoanthraquinone is also mentioned.
