Abstract

282,629. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 23, 1926, [Convention date]. Pyranthrone dyestuffs.-Vat dyestuffs giving orange dyeings from an alkaline hydrosulphite vat are produced by treating Bz: Bz<1>- diarylpyranthrones with acid condensing agents. When the latter are not oxidizing agents the reduced derivative of the dyestuff is first obtained. In an example, Bz : Bz<1>-diphenylpyranthrone is condensed by means of manganese dioxide in the presence of sulphuric acid whilst cooling, and the resulting dyestuff is separated by pouring into water. It may be purified by means of sodium hypochlorite solution. The same starting material is condensed in a second example by means of aluminium chloride in fused common salt. Oxidation of the resulting hydro compound commences during the operation and is completed by aeration.
