Abstract

262,819. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 14, 1925, [Convention date]. Dibenzanthrone dyes are obtained by treating Bz1 : Bz1<1>-dibenzanthronyls 'with alkaline reducing agents. According to an example, Bz1 : Bz1<1>-dibenzanthronyl is boiled with caustic soda solution and sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate and, after addition of more caustic soda and hydrosulphite, the vat is filtered and the dyestuff precipitated by an oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite. Bz1 :Bz1<1>-Dibenzanthronyls can be obtained by treating Bz1-halogen-benzanthrones with metal powders, or by boiling Bz1-diazobenzanthrones in presence of cuprous chloride, or by oxidizing benzanthrones in acid solution. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the production of dibenzanthrones by treating Bz1 : Bz1<1>-dibenzanthronyls with alkaline condensing agents, and the production of dyestuffs from Bz1 Bz1<1>-dibenzanthronyl, Bz2 : Bz2<1>-dimethyl-Bz1 : Bz1<1>- dibenzanthronyl (obtained by acid oxidation of Bz2-methylbenzanthrone), and 6: 6<1>-dichlor-Bz1 : Bz1<1>-dibenzanthronyl (obtained by acid oxidation of 6-chlorbenzanthrone). This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
